It's nearly time.

Dentistry for Chickens Rothesay Bay January 2027

We're moving in at 585 Beach Road. Come and say hello to your new local dentist.

See what's coming

We're the dentists chickens aren't scared of.

Clinician and patient chatting and smiling

We opened our first practice in Remuera in 2007. Twenty years and 25,000 patients later, there's very little we haven't seen.

We believe the best dentistry builds confidence, not fear. Confidence in your teeth, your smile and your health, and the confidence to keep looking after them. That comes from straight answers about what we find, a written estimate before any treatment starts, and a practice that runs smoothly from your first phone call to your last appointment.

Our name tells you the rest. Plenty of our patients find the dentist hard, and we're set up to help them, from small comforts in the chair to around 600 hours of sedation a year. But you don't need to consider yourself a chicken to see us. We're here to provide high-quality dental care to everyone, including the bravest among us. Come as you are and we'll meet you there.

From January 2027, you'll find all of that at 585 Beach Road.

A visit, start to finish

Your first appointment follows the same order every time.

  1. We listen

We start with you: why you've come in, how long it's been, what's worrying you, and anything that makes dental visits hard. It all helps us plan the appointment around you.

  2. We take a proper look

We check your teeth, gums and the rest of your mouth, and take x-rays when we need to see between teeth or below the gumline.

  3. We explain and plan

We show you what we found, tell you what we'd recommend and why, and give you a written estimate for any treatment. Larger treatment can be spread over several visits, and nothing goes ahead until you've agreed to it.

Nervous is normal here

Some people have had a bad experience. Some can't stand needles, the sound of the drill or the feeling of lying back. Some just feel nervous and can't say why. Tell us what bothers you and we'll work from there.

What we can do about it

  • Explain as we go.

We tell you what's about to happen before it happens, and work at a pace that suits you.

  • Patient in the chair watching the ceiling TV, holding the remote

Give you something else to focus on.

TVs on the ceiling, and headphones with your own music.

  • Green dinosaur plushie sitting in an armchair

    Make the chair more comfortable.

A blanket, a stress ball, and a plushie to hold if you'd like one.

  • Couple holding hands in the chair while a clinician talks to them

    Bring someone along.

A friend or family member is welcome to come with you.

  • Man breathing through a Nitronox mask with a clinician beside him

Help for the moments you need it.

If there's a small part you struggle with, like needles, a couple of breaths of Nitronox usually helps.

  • Need a bit more help?

Nitrous oxide and IV sedation are here when comfort alone isn't enough.

    About sedation

Mention any of this when you book, or tell us on the day.

Sedation, for when you need more support

Sometimes the treatment, or the fear, calls for more. We offer two kinds of sedation at Rothesay Bay.

Nitrous oxide

Nitrous oxide is the lighter option. You breathe it through a small piece over your nose and stay awake and relaxed. It wears off quickly, so you can usually drive yourself home about 30 minutes later.

IV sedation

IV sedation is deeper. You're deeply relaxed throughout, and many people drift off and remember little or nothing of the appointment afterwards.

We recommend the option that suits you after looking at the treatment, your health and what you find difficult.

Cleans and gum care stay front and centre

If you've been coming to 585 Beach Road for your cleans, you'll find the same focus on hygiene and gum health with us.

Our Oral Health Therapist is the usual place to start for a clean. Their appointments centre on your gums and on prevention, from routine cleans to ongoing treatment for gum disease. If you're also due for a check-up with a dentist, we can coordinate the two appointments.

Each visit is also a chance to look at your routine at home. Our Oral Health Therapist will show you which areas need more attention, suggest what will make the biggest difference for your teeth and gums, and help you build habits that last between appointments.

For most people we recommend a clean every six months and a check-up once a year. If your gums need closer attention than that, we'll tell you and explain why.

Managing gum disease

Periodontal (gum) disease is managed over time, with regular cleans below the gumline and checks on how your gums are responding. Our Oral Health Therapist plans this care with you and keeps track of the changes from one visit to the next.

We also have a perioscope, specialist equipment that lets us see below the gumline with a very small camera. It shows the Oral Health Therapist the surfaces they're cleaning, including hardened deposits that are otherwise hidden. If you've had regular gum treatment before, it may not have included perioscopy. We'll tell you if your gums would benefit, and explain what it involves and costs first.

All your general dental care under one roof

Regular check-ups, repairs, replacement teeth and cosmetic care, all at 585 Beach Road.

Everyday care

Regular check-ups and cleans for adults and children, so small problems are found while they're small.

Regular check-ups let us spot decay, gum problems and wear early, while they're simpler to treat, and cleans take care of the build-up that brushing at home can't reach. X-rays show us what we can't see in the chair, such as between teeth and below the gumline. We see children as well as adults. Starting regular visits early helps children get used to the dentist and keeps their teeth on track as they grow.

Repair and rebuild

For teeth that are sore, chipped, cracked or broken.

If a tooth is sore or sensitive, has chipped or cracked, or part of it has broken off, we'll find out what's going on and talk you through the options. Often a filling or a crown can repair the tooth and protect it from further damage. When the soreness comes from inside the tooth, root canal treatment can let us keep it. Bigger repairs can be planned over several visits, with sedation as part of the plan if you need it. If you're in pain or a tooth has broken, call us on 09 600 3110.

Replacing teeth

Crowns, bridges, dentures and implants, for teeth that need strengthening or replacing.

Sometimes a tooth has had to come out, or a tooth that's been repaired many times needs more support to last. We'll talk through the ways to strengthen what's there or fill the gap, including crowns, bridges, dentures and implants, and how each one looks, feels and fits your plans. The aim is teeth you're comfortable eating and smiling with.

Cosmetic

Whitening, veneers and clear aligners, for when you'd like to change how your smile looks.

If you'd like your smile brighter, straighter or more even, we look at it as a whole: the colour, shape and position of your teeth and how they sit together. Whitening, veneers and clear aligners each change a different part of that. We start by checking your teeth and gums are healthy, then explain what each option could realistically do for your smile and what it costs.

Understanding treatment costs

Written estimates, staged plans and several ways to pay.

A check-up or a clean has a set fee. Treatment costs depend on what we find, the options open to you and how much is involved, so we assess first and give you a written estimate before anything starts.

When there's a lot to do, we can stage the treatment over several visits, in an order that makes clinical sense. That spreads the cost as well.

Ways to pay

Our prepayment plan

Pay towards your treatment in regular instalments, interest-free and with no credit check. We set the payments around your treatment plan so the balance is cleared by your final appointment.

Afterpay

Four interest-free instalments over six weeks. Set up your Afterpay account before your visit.

Q Card and Q Mastercard

Longer-term finance, sometimes with interest-free periods. Apply with Q Card before your treatment starts.

Southern Cross Easy-Claim

Southern Cross members can claim on the spot. We check your cover during the appointment and you pay the difference.

ACC

If an accident or injury caused the problem, we'll help you lodge the claim. ACC contributes to eligible treatment and you pay the remaining gap.

Work and Income

If you may qualify for help, we'll assess the treatment you need and prepare a quote for your Work and Income application. The assessment is paid at the appointment.

Ask us about costs

Come and meet your new neighbours

We'd love to meet our new neighbours, so if you live or work locally, your first check-up is on us. Come in, say hello and see the place.

If we find anything that needs treatment, we'll explain it and give you a written estimate. Whether you go ahead is up to you.
